In our classroom children have been practicing yoga since September- I am a strong beleiver that yoga really helps us in balancing mind and body in different ways.I have been practicing yoga for almost a decade now.I strongly beleive that children can concentrate better with practice and helps make the class rooms climate very peaceful. We practice silence games few times a week. This helps children relax. When it comes to relaxation, some children have difficulty in closing their eyes or being silent.Yoga helps channel these behaviors in a positive way.Our children are practicing different poses and postures. Some of these may seem easy, but, it requires a lot of concentration.I have explained to my students about breathing and how we can send oxygen to different parts of our body, how these postures or exercises helps our mind and body; how we can have positive thoughts and above all , how we can be at peace. Also, how we can work with each other, how we can develop team skills and teach each other! It is such a joy to observe children helping each other and children teaching their friends and me some other yoga poses that I may not know. Parents enjoy seeing some of the poses that our children have been practicing and ask how or where in their body these poses helps! The most gratifying feeling is THEY are asking for MORE!
